Cost-effectiveness of automated dipping : The purpose of the trial described here was to compare automatic and manual dipping. Automatic dipping does not improve bacteriological results. It reduces the overall cost of the cleaning-disinfecting operations by 4%.Desirability of applying detergent solutions :The application of a detergent solution optimises cleaning-disinfecting operations. At the present time only one in two livestock farms use detergents.Estimating the cost of cleaning-disinfecting of livestock facilities : The importance of cleaning and disinfecting livestock facilities in health risk control is universally acknowledged. Here the different components are quantified for a “typical” livestock farm in order to estimate the cost of the overall operation. Working time and quantities of products used are the main components of the cost of cleaning-disinfecting operations. These two components are particularly important because they constitute two determining factors for the successful decontamination of facilities.
