Euthanasia in pig farming

This technique causes immediate loss of consciousness together with lethal irreversible brain injury. For piglets less than 8 kg, when a captive bolt pistol with appropriate bolt length and cartridge is not available, the most efficient method is stunning by a blow to the head. This method is quick and effective.
