This study shows the close similarity of these two genetic types as regards growth and feeding efficiency. It confirms the significant advantage of animals from Piétrain boars for carcass quality. It shows that the two genetic types are very similar for meat quality. The results obtained during ham processing should reassure downstream operators, because they demonstrate the advantage of pigs from Piétrain boars in terms of end yield. This work also shows the prime importance of animal preparation for meat quality, supporting recommendations for fasting duration.
