Despite an unfavourable socio-economic context and a weakly structured professional organisation, Belgium has succeeded in setting up an efficacious pig tracking system. Today, the SANITEL system coversthe whole country and all pig farms, and allows a high traceability of animal movements and health monitoring of herds.
