All butchery pig transport vehicles and nearly half the alleys of holding pens at slaughterhouses are contaminated with Salmonella after use. They are therefore potential sources of Salmonella contamination for healthy animals. Truck cleaning-disinfecting procedures that are effective against Salmonella and compatiblewith the activities of drivers have been defined. Their application after every slaughterhouse delivery prevents cross-contamination between batches. For holding pens at slaughterhouses suitable cleaning-disinfecting procedures remain to be specified. They could be applied daily or after every at-risk delivery.
