Pigs raised outdoors are in better physical condition than their indoor counterparts, as illustrated by their lower heart rates.However, they undergo greater stress when handled, especially when being led to anaesthesia. With their slightly lower end pH values, range-raised pigs also give meat with lower technical yields.
