Since 2011, the EcoAntibio plans have encouraged decreasing the use of antibiotics. The annual monitoring of veterinary antimicrobial sales performed by Anses-ANMV demonstrates the efforts made by the pig farming sector but remains unclear about specific details of their use. Using a constant methodology, the INAPORC panels have provided detailed reference data on antibiotic use for over 10 years. Its 5th edition was published in 2022. A total of 440 pig farmers were randomly selected from the BDPORC database, excluding small farms (less than 50 sows or 100 fattening places), as were Corsican and overseas farms. The INAPORC panel consists of 129 farmers representative of French pig production based on three criteria: farming orientation, farm size, and production region. From the list of antibiotic purchases provided by prescribers, the exact number of products purchased by each farm is known. A telephone interview with the farmer allows product use to be identified as a function of the type of animal, the route of administration, and the reason for treatment. In 2022, for the first time, the animals that received the most antibiotics were not post-weaning pigs, but suckling piglets. Antibiotic use during the first physiological stage decreased by 92% since 2010, particularly between 2019 and 2022 (-64%), mainly due to a decrease in the use of medicated premixes (-87% over the 3 years). Antibiotic use during the second stage increased by 59% since 2019, in part due to extreme practices on a very small number of farms. Antibiotic use for sows and fattening pigs has continued to decrease since 2019 (by 17% and 50%).
