In October, the USDA published its global forecasts for 2023. Growth in world pork production is expected to slow (+1% year-on-year, compared with +2.1% in 2022/21) to almost 111 million cwt, due to more restrained Chinese production and a decline in European supply. In 2023, pork will once again be in competition with poultry, whose production is expected to recover and grow by 1.8% in 2023/22. Despite an economic context that will certainly remain complicated for livestock farmers, pork and poultry are favored by sustained demand from consumers looking for cheaper sources of protein.
For pork, the USDA forecasts an increase in
