1st Symposium on European Local Pig Breeds
extending the 13th Symposium on the mediterranean Pig
17 and 18 November, 2027 In Rennes (France)
The 1st Symposium on European Local Pig Breeds, as an extension of the 13th International Symposium on the Mediterranean Pig, will be held in Rennes (France) from November 17 to 18, 2027.
The symposium will bring together Researchers, Technical Experts and Stakeholders involved in the Conservation, Management and Valorisation of Local Pig Breeds.
Since the first International Symposium on the Mediterranean Pig held in Ajaccio (France) in 1987, twelve editions have been organised in Badajoz (Spain), Benevento (Italy), Évora (Portugal), Tarbes (France), Capo d’Orlando (Italy), Córdoba (Spain), Ljubljana (Slovenia), Portalegre (Portugal), Florence (Italy), Vodice (Croatia) and most recently in Budapest (Hungary). Over time, participation has gradually expanded beyond the Mediterranean area.
Building on this evolution, the 2027 edition aims to broaden the scope of the symposium and strengthen exchanges at the European level, while maintaining the historical foundations and scientific themes of the Mediterranean Pig network.
The symposium will address a broad range of topics related to local pig breeds and their farming systems, including systems, including:
- BREEDING AND GENETICS OF LOCAL BREEDS,
- FEEDING AND FARMING SYSTEMS,
- ANIMAL HEALTH AND PHYSIOLOGY,
- MEAT, PRODUCTS QUALITY AND FOOD TECHNOLOGY,
- GENETIC DIVERSITY, PRACTICES AND PRODUCTS,
- SOCIO-ECONOMIC ASPECTS ALONG THE VALUE CHAINS.
